DERRICK BARNESDerrick D. Barnes is a native of Kansas City, MO., although he spent a good portion of his formative years in Mississippi. He is a graduate of Jackson State University with a degree in Marketing. He is the author of the children's books STOP DROP AND CHILL, and THE LOW DOWN BAD DAY BLUES published by Scholastic (2005). He is debuting a brand new series entitled RUBY AND THE BOOKER BOYS in July of 2008 also published by Scholastic. He is also known for writing best selling copy for various Hallmark Card lines and as the first African American male staff writer for Hallmark. Derrick recently relocated from New Orleans, LA to Kansas City, KS with his wife, Tinka and their sons, Ezra, Solomon, and Silas.
